Manchester United have slapped a £6.5million price tag on Sam Johnstone who is currently on loan at Aston Villa, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Premier League giants are willing to sell the 24-year-old goalkeeper for the right price, even though he has impressed on loan at the Villans this season.

The Sun report that Johnstone wants to move to the Villans on a permanent basis, and Steve Bruce plans to talk to Jose Mourinho about the possibility of signing him in the next few weeks.

It is believed that the goalkeeper currently earns £25,000-a-week, with his Manchester United contract not ending until 2019 after being extended by a year last week.

Good move for Aston Villa?

It’s brilliant move if the Villans can stump up the £6.5million needed to sign him.

Johnstone has made 35 appearances, keeping 15 clean sheets, since joining Steve Bruce’s side in the summer and is easily the best goalkeeper at the club.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has a bright future in the game and is capable of playing in the Premier League on regular basis, if the Villans win promotion this season.

Likely to happen?

Yes, there’s every reason to suggest this move could happen.

The goalkeeper gets regular football at the Villans and knows that he would be more than likely to continue to feature if their promoted to the Premier League, so would be keen to join on a permanent basis.

The only reason why this deal won’t come to fruition is if the Villans fail to win promotion and current Premier League teams swoop in and sign Johnstone instead of them.
