Liverpool face a crucial summer transfer window as they look to capitalise on what has been a brilliant season under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have seen their standing in the English game inflate massively this season as their brilliant attacking play has won plaudits across the country.

The club still remain in the hunt for a second Champions League trophy, but face a tough test in the quarter-finals against league leaders Manchester City.

Whatever happens with that, Liverpool will still need to strengthen further if they are to mount a title challenge next season, and the area that needs most reinforcement is the defence.

The world-record purchase of Virgil van Dijk in January is beginning to show dividends, but there is further business that needs to be done in that area.

And the perfect man to bring in to play alongside van Dijk is Leicester City star Harry Maguire.

The former Hull City enforcer joined the Foxes last summer for a fee of £12million [Transfermarkt], and has been in brilliant form for his new club this season.

The 25-year-old has shown over his two seasons in the Premier League that he has the skill to bring the ball out from the back with purpose, and that is exactly what Liverpool need.

We already know that van Dijk can do exactly that, so imagine what Liverpool’s defence would become with a similarly gifted player alongside him.

While it is easy to get lost in talking about both players’ ability on the ball, there is no doubt that Maguire is also brilliant at doing the job he is paid for.

The 6ft 4in colossus is strong in the air, robust in the tackle, and is showing good improvement with his positioning.

And, at 25 years old, he still has room for development, and that would undoubtedly come fast at a club like Liverpool while playing alongside a player like van Dijk.
