Liverpool are in pole position to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer, according to the Independent.

The newspaper claim that Liverpool are among several Premier League clubs that are tracking Werner, but Jurgen Klopp has shown the biggest interest so far as he looks to add depth to his attack.

The Independent report that negotiations with Leipzig would be tough, with Liverpool’s discussions for Naby Keita having drawn out over a long period.

It is said that another concern is Werner’s admission that joining rivals Manchester United would be a dream.

Werner, 22, has scored 17 goals in 35 games in all competitions for Leipzig this year, and is set to play a big part for Germany at this summer’s World Cup.

Good move for Liverpool?

Absolutely.

Werner has made that leap from being a young talent with potential to a proven young player, and looks destined for big things in the game.

The 22-year-old has a great goalscoring record in his senior career so far, and has spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League.

With Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings certain to move on this summer, Liverpool will need to bring in some attacking reinforcements, and Werner would be a great option.

Likely to happen?

Unfortunately, no.

Werner has recently reiterated his desire to remain at Leipzig for another season, and even if he did move, then Manchester United would look the most likely destination.
