Danny Ings dismissed the idea of leaving Liverpool in a recent interview but the 25-year-old forward should be begging the club to let him go.

Ings was asked about the chances of him moving to another club in the summer and the forward clearly revealed his desire to stay put, despite being overlooked by Jurgen Klopp.

“I know a lot of people expected me to leave the club because I wasn’t involved for along period of time and was playing under-23s football,” said Ings as quoted by the Daily Star.

“But all I wanted to do was to play here and I owed it to myself to give myself the best chance of trying to break into the team.

“This is a great club and I would be silly if I wanted to be anywhere else.”

While many players over the years have seemingly pledged their future to a club only to leave months later, Ings referring to departing Anfield as “silly” suggests he is serious about staying where he is.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries since moving from Burnley to join Klopp’s side in 2015, and has only made 18 appearances for the Reds for this reason.

However, Ings finally appears to have won the battle to be fit, making nine appearances in the Premier League 2 this season in order to make himself available for selection by the first-team.

Klopp opted to play the centre-forward against Porto, in both legs, but only allowed him to play 38 minutes across the two games.

Ings played the majority of his minutes in the second leg against the Portuguese giants, and shone, the 25-year-old nearly scored the winning goal of the game, with him looking lively all over the pitch.

This performance despite being impressive, wasn’t enough to see him even make the bench for the Reds’ following game against Manchester United, with Dominic Solanke being preferred ahead of him.

Given the fact that 20-year-old Solanke is only set to get better given his age, and Ings not having his memorable display against Porto rewarded, the 25-year-old should be begging to leave the club.

All signs point to him not being given regular games anytime soon and he really needs to revive his career as soon as possible, while people still remember how good he is.
