Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring Barcelona left winger Joel Lopez, according to Sport.

The Spanish newspaper claim that the 14-year-old defender has not renewed his contract with the Spanish giants and everything seems to indicate that he will move to England next season.

Sport report that Barcelona will try and retain Lopez but won’t make him a crazy offer in their pursuit of his signature, as they have two other promising left-backs at the club.

It is believed that the La Liga side are not confident about keeping him at the club despite making efforts to ensure that their talented players stay with them.

The 14-year-old is known for ability to run up and down the left wing, according to Sport’s report, and he is believed to be a very mature player for his age.

Good move for Liverpool?

Barcelona’s academy has certainly produced a number of talented players over the years, so there’s no reason why the Reds shouldn’t be keeping an eye on any player to emerge from it.

With the player being so young it’s hard to know how he will cope with moving to England, and the Reds will need to decide whether or not to take a chance on him.

Who knows, Lopez could be another success story to come out of Barcelona’s academy.

Likely to happen?

With the 14-year-old not renewing his contract, it seems likely that he will leave Barcelona.

Whether he will make the bold decision to move abroad is debatable though Sports’ report seems certain that he will be in England next season.

However even if this is the case, the Reds face a tough task beating Arsenal to his signature as the Gunners have history of signing Barcelona youth products, for example Hector Bellerin and Cesc Fabregas.
