McManaman warns Everton

|

Steve McManaman revealed that he thought Everton had gone backwards in the last two seasons and warned them that they could soon drop down the table.

The BT Sport pundit shared on Premier League Tonight (Saturday, 20:16) that he was confused over what the Toffees’ current direction was and it could lead to trouble in the future, pinpointing the lack of tactical plan as the reason behind their poor form.

“They’re not making any chances away from home, they’re not creating anything, they look as if there’s no plan at Everton,” said McManaman on Premier League Tonight.

“I knew there was a plan when Roberto Martinez was there, I knew what football they were going to play, I know what future they had planned.

“But they seem to have just ripped it up, just to stay in the Premier League and completely panicked.”

The former Liverpool midfielder went on to admit that he was not sure who would be in charge of buying new players in the summer.

McMananman also stated that there was an uncertainty over whether Sam Allardyce would be in charge of the club come August, nor was he sure whether Bill Kenwright was still the figure head at Everton.

Before moving away from the Toffees’ troubles, he delivered a stark warning of what could happen if their terrible run of form continues between now and the end of the season.

“In the last two years, they’ve suddenly acquired billions of pounds and gone way, way backwards,” admitted the pundit.

“They’re lucky that they’re still in ninth, how on earth they’re in ninth with the form their playing, they can easily be eclipsed.

“If they keep on losing games, Swansea were in 18th before, they’re now in 13th, they could be on Everton’s tails very soon.

“These teams will be flip-flopping if they don’t sort themselves out soon.”

Everton lost 2-1 to Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, which left them 10th in the table as Watford defeated West Bromwich Albion later in the day.

OPINION

McManaman may be a Liverpool legend but his verdict on Everton’s current predicament is 100 per cent right. The BT Sports pundit is right to be worried about the Toffees as after losing 2-1 to Burnley, the club are showing no signs of turning things around. Allardyce has been unable to stop the rot at the club and his original bright start as manager is all but a distant memory. It would be a shock if he is the man in Everton’s dugout at the start of next season, with the supporters having already publicly turned on the former England boss. The Toffees are in such a mess and you simply have to wonder whether there is a manager capable of turning it around for them next season.
