Jose Mourinho looks on the verge of losing the dressing room at Manchester United, and one recent report suggests that the Portuguese is about to cull several players from the squad this summer.

As reported by the Mirror, as many as ten players could leave Manchester United this summer in a massive dressing room clear out by Mourinho.

One of those under threat is central midfield enforcer Ander Herrera, who has been consigned to a fringe role at Old Trafford this season under the the Portuguese.

Everton would do well to plot a summer swoop for the Spain international, who would massively strengthen the midfield options at Goodison Park.

Herrera arrived at United in a £32million transfer from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014, and has gone on to make 152 appearances for the club since then.

That kind of experience makes him a perfect signing for a club like Everton, who need players who can come in and make an instant impact in the Premier League.

Herrera will bring some much-needed steel to an Everton midfield that has been carried by Idrissa Gueye in recent years, with his tough-tackling and no-nonsense approach simplifying things in the middle.

His presence alongside Gueye will unleash Everton’s vast attacking potential, with other players now free to play more offensive football with him sitting in behind.

Players like Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson are being forced to play a bit deeper than they would like to, and that would not happen again if Everton swooped for Herrera this summer.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his deal at United, which means that this is the last realistic opportunity for the Red Devils to command a decent fee for Herrera.

Everton should capitalise and move for the Spain international, who would be the perfect summer signing for the club.
