Tottenham duo Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen are the best players in Europe in their position, according to the latest study by the CIES Football Observatory

The International Centre for Sports Studies ranked players in Europe’s top five leagues during their domestic matches over the last three months.

The players’ performances were measured in six different areas of the game: rigour, recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation and shooting.

Spurs skipper Lloris came out on top in the goalkeeper category, with the France international securing a rating of 84.1 to pip Roma’s Alisson Becker to the number one spot.

Teammate Eriksen was named as the winner in the ‘box-to-box midfielder’ category, with the Dane given a rating of 89.9 to beat Napoli’s Marek Hamsik into second place.

Another Spurs star, Dele Alli, was named seventh in the same category with a rating of 84.8, exactly level with Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira.

There were some impressive performances from other Spurs stars, with Davinson Sanchez second among centre-backs, Son Heung-min fourth among wingers, and Ben Davies fifth in the full-back category.

Harry Kane was named third best striker across Europe, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain, while Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier rated second and eighth respectively among defensive midfielders.

OPINION

Obviously this study doesn’t mean anything, but seeing so many Spurs players rank in the top-ten in Europe is seriously impressive. It goes without saying that Tottenham have been brilliant in the past three months, but this study shows exactly why. Everyone in the team has been playing well, and the team have gelled brilliantly at such a crucial time in the season. That form needs to continue however as the race for the top four reaches a conclusion, and the semi-finals of the FA Cup approach.
