Arsenal could move for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer if Jack Wilshere leaves the club this summer, according to Calciomercato

The Italian football outlet report that the 22-year-old is on the radar of the Gunners, who are bracing themselves for the potential exit of academy graduate Wilshere.

Calciomercato claim that Serie A giants AC Milan are also tracking the Germany international, who is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available for free.

It is said that Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli met one of Meyer’s agents recently, but the hunt for Meyer will be tough with Arsenal also in the frame.

Central midfielder Wilshere, who has been key to Arsenal’s hopes this season, is also out of contract this summer, and may leave Arsenal for free if he does not agree a new deal at the Emirates.

Good move for Arsenal?

Yes.

If Wilshere does leave this summer, then the Gunners will need to bring in an able replacement, and Meyer could be that man.

In truth, the club are looking weak in central midfield anyway, so a move for Meyer may be advisable anyway.

Likely to happen?

There will no doubt be a lot of competition for Meyer this summer.

It is not often that a young Germany international is available for free, and Meyer will be in big demand.

Therefore, Arsenal will need to be quick if they want to snap him up.
