Leeds United have been handed a massive boost after key attacker Pablo Hernandez returned to training as he bids to recover from a groin injury.

The four-time Spain international picked up the injury during the Whites’ 2-2 draw against Derby County on the 21st of February.

The 32-year-old has since missed a 1-0 win over Brentford and a 3-0 loss to Middlesbrough, but has now returned to training ahead of their clash with Wolves on Wednesday.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom confirmed the news in the pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon, while also revealing that goalkeeper Andy Lonergan and striker Kemar Roofe remained out with injuries of their own.

The news was reported by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay on Twitter:

OPINION

Hernandez’s potential return will be a big boost for Leeds, especially as they face a faltering Wolves side who will be well up for this clash. The Spaniard has been in great form for the Whites recently, and is a key part of their attack when he is on form. He links up well with Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who will no doubt be starting, and if Leeds want to take anything from this game then that combination may be key. The other question looming over Hernandez is a new contract, with the player stating that he wants to stay at the club but the board are yet to offer him a new deal.
