Aston Villa are tracking Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson as he prepares to leave Old Trafford this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the 21-year-old stopper has informed United of his intention to leave this summer after impressing at League One side Shrewsbury Town this season.

The Mirror claim that the Red Devils are preparing a final offer for Henderson to stay, but the youngster is said to have his heart set on a move.

It is said that Arsenal are also keeping an eye on proceedings alongside Villa.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Yes.

Henderson is a quality young goalkeeper who has played several times for the England Under-21s and looks a real star of the future.

The youngster has obviously made up his mind that he wants a new challenge, and if Villa were the team to snap him up it would be a brilliant piece of business.

The one question hanging over the move would be whether Henderson would slot in as the club’s number one, and that depends on several factors explained below.

Likely to happen?

This one depends on movements elsewhere.

Villa’s current goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone, is also a Manchester United player, and Steve Bruce will obviously want to keep hold of him this summer.

However, that is only likely to happen if they get promoted, with Johnstone having Premier League ambitions and Villa unlikely to have the cash to buy him permanently.

If Johnstone does end up leaving, then you would think that Villa would set in motion a swoop for Henderson, who would most likely slot in as number one.
