Aston Villa have made one change from the starting XI that lost to Fulham as Josh Onomah replaces Ahmed Elmohamady against Preston on Tuesday evening, and fans have taken to Twitter to slam the decision to start the young midfielder.

Villa saw their seven-game winning streak ended by the Cottagers over the weekend, with goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Floyd Ayite sealing a 2-0 defeat.

That result has left Steve Bruce’s side sitting in third in the Championship as they welcome seventh-placed Preston North End to Villa Park on Tuesday evening.

Preston are coming in off the back of a 1-1 draw against league leaders Wolves at the weekend, with John Welsh seeing red in the second half for a second bookable offence.

A win for Villa will send them back up into second in the race for the last automatic promotion spot after Cardiff City leapfrogged them after the weekend’s fixtures.

Cardiff are set to play Ipswich Town in an away fixture on Wednesday, which could mix things up even further at the top of the Championship table.

Attention before Tuesday nights clash however turned to the selection of 20-year-old Tottenham loanee Onomah, who has fallen off massively since a promising start to his Villa career.
