Premier League club Watford have offered midfield destroyer Abdoulaye Doucoure a new contract to keep him at the club amid interest from Tottenham, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims that Watford are keen to keep hold of the 25-year-old and have tabled a fresh £70,000-a-week deal to keep him at Vicarage Road.

It is understood the contract would make him the highest paid player at the Hornets as they look to fend off interest.

Doucoure recently confirmed to French TV station Telefoot that Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are all interested in his signature.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail previously reported that the trio are keen on the French central midfielder and that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has even been on a scouting mission to watch him in action.

Good move for Spurs?

Doucoure is certainly an in-demand player at the moment and his performances this season have been very strong in the Premier League.

The central midfielder is a no-nonsense player that defensively sound and also shown he can make an impact going forward with seven goals Premier League goals this season.

However, it’s unlikely he could force his way into the Spurs midfield right now given the options and this campaign is the best he has ever performed, which highlights a potential risk over his signature.

Spurs have a really strong core of players at their disposal and should only chase targets that can truly make a big impact on their squad, but the jury is still very much out on Doucoure.

Likely to happen?

Watford are trying desperately to secure the long-term future of Doucoure and their contract offer is a real signal of intent.

Spurs would face a real battle to get this deal over the line in the summer and it seems a long way off right now.
