West Ham defender Jose Fonte is set to complete a move to Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang next week, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the centre-back has agreed a move to the Asian club ahead of a £4.9million switch.

It is understood that the 34-year-old will pen a three-year contract and will jet out to complete his transfer away from the London Stadium on Monday.

The report details that the Portugal international will sign a new deal worth £3.54million a year.

Fonte has played just eight times this campaign and has been unable to force his way back into David Moyes’ side since his comeback from injury.

Good move for West Ham?

West Ham look set to offload Fonte and his departure shouldn’t impact the squad a great deal.

He is experienced head and a good figure to have round the dressing room, but the ex-Southampton ace has never really hit top heights since he joined in January 2017.

Moyes has plenty of other defensive options to use and they will be receiving a near-£5million windfall for a player that is certainly not part of their long-term plans.

Likely to happen?

This deal looks on the verge of completion and the fact that the Chinese window closes at the end of February makes it possible.

Fonte has slipped down the pecking order at West Ham behind the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, James Collins and Aaron Cresswell for the centre-back spots.
