Celtic locked in Rogic negotiations

|

Celtic are locked in negotiations with midfielder Tom Rogic over a new contract after reports that he had outright rejected an offer from the club, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper claim that the Hoops are showing commitment to talks with the Australia international, who may use this summer’s World Cup to force a move away.

The Mail report that Celtic are in a race against time to secure a new deal for the 25-year-old, as any failure to do so opens up the possibility of Rogic leaving for free in the summer of 2019.

It is said that Rogic has been linked with several English clubs during his time in Glasgow, and the Hoops are now engaged in talks with the player and his agent, Daniel Berman.

OPINION

This is worrying for the Hoops. Rogic has established himself as a favourite of both Brendan Rodgers and the fans, and to see him leave the club would be a big blow. That blow would be amplified further if it was on a free transfer after next season. It is not known why Rogic rejected the club’s first offer, but it could be that he is angling for a move south, and in that case there may not be much that Celtic can do.
