Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to defeat West Ham 3-0 on Saturday at Anfield as he has no idea how the Hammers will be able to stop the Reds’ front three.

In his predictions for Sky Sports, the pundit shared that David Moyes would not have written off getting a result against the Reds, but Merson admitted that even if the Hammers lost it wouldn’t affect the grand scheme of things.

“I have no idea how West Ham can go about stopping Liverpool’s front three, they are very, very good,” said Merson.

“West Ham won’t have written this game off but it is a free swing, if they lose this game it doesn’t affect them in the grand scheme of things.”

The Hammers go into Saturday’s game against Liverpool, sitting only four points clear of the relegation zone.

Whereas, the Reds know that victory against West Ham on Saturday would move them above Manchester United in the table, to sit second.

OPINION

Merson is wrong to think a loss to Liverpool wouldn’t affect the grand scheme of things for West Ham, as every point is vital at this stage. The Hammers are only four points clear of the relegation zone and need to pick up every point they possibly can to ensure their survival. While no one expects West Ham to get a result against the Reds, fellow relegation battlers Swansea City have shown that it’s possible to beat them. The Swans were sat bottom of the league ahead of playing Liverpool in January, but beat them 1-0. Also Moyes has already shown that he is capable of guiding West Ham to unexpected victories this season, after he guided his side to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in December.
