Tottenham’s on-loan striker Vincent Janssen could miss the rest of the season for Fenerbahce with a toe injury, according to ESPN.

The broadcaster report that a source close to the Turkish Super Lig club has claimed that Janssen’s injury is much worse than initially expected.

ESPN claim that the Netherlands international has an edema on his right toe that is withholding fluids, and doctors are reluctant to perform surgery because there is a risk of nerve damage.

It is said that Janssen is now not expected back until mid-April at the earliest, and will not return to training until late March.

The injury has reportedly led Fenerbahce chiefs to cool their interest in signing Janssen permanently at the end of the season, and the 23-year-old is now expected to return to Tottenham in the summer.

OPINION

Janssen’s injury is a big blow to his chances of getting signed permanently by Fenerbahce, and it now looks likely that he will return to Tottenham in the summer. Mauricio Pochettino has however made it quite clear that Janssen is not good enough for Spurs, and it looks as though he will be sold to someone else if Fenerbahce do not want him. It is a shame, as many Spurs fans wanted Janssen to succeed, but in truth it was quickly clear that he was not up to the task in the Premier League at this stage in his career.
