Rio Ferdinand hailed Tottenham’s Harry Kane as the best striker in the league after watching him perform against Manchester United on Wednesday.

The centre-forward didn’t score in Spurs’ 2-0 victory over Jose Mourinho’s side, but Ferdinand was clearly impressed with what he saw.

The pundit gave his opinion on Kane’s performance while on BT Sport and compared the 24-year-old’s performance with Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku’s display from the same game.

“Harry Kane today showed why he is the best striker in the league and one of the most potent in Europe,” said Ferdinand.

“He bullied Manchester United two centre-halves today, totally dominated them, physically with the ball bringing others into play.

“The difference between him and Lukaku today was so evident, the ball going into him and sticking, holding centre-halves off, bring others into the game.

“That’s a real number nine, that’s the way you want to see a number nine play.”

Kane has been in sensational form for Tottenham this season, scoring 30 goals 31 appearances across all competitions.

The centre-forward’s form has seen him lead the race for the Premier League’s golden boot, having scored 21 goals in the league, whereas Lukaku is the sixth highest scorer in the league as he has only grabbed 11 goals in comparison.

OPINION

Kane once again impresses a pundit in an important game for his side. The centre-forward must only have a few doubters remaining as he seems incapable of failing to deliver for Tottenham this season. It will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old can take this form to the World Cup with him, as surely his presence actually gives England a chance of success for once. Ferdinand is a little harsh to Lukaku by comparing his performance to Kane’s as anyone would struggle to measure up to the standard Kane is currently setting.  The Belgian international hasn’t exactly flopped at Manchester United since joining, so Ferdinand had no need to put the spotlight on him.
