Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has claimed that the club will not have to break the bank to keep star man Harry Kane.

Kane has been continually linked away from Tottenham this summer as his brilliant form continues and his reputation continues to grow.

But former Spurs star Sheringham has claimed that Kane is happy at Spurs and that the club will not need to do much to retain his services this summer.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sheringham said: “It is like he is saying to himself at the end of every season, “Where do I go from here? How can I get better?” He keeps on improving. That is tough to do when you are as high up the ladder as he is.

“If he was up for sale, he could go anywhere, no problem. And that is why Tottenham need to keep him. They need to win something this year, they need to keep him happy, pay him more money so he is on a parallel with other top players.

“You probably wouldn’t have to break the bank to keep him. He is a happy man, a contented man, and the club are on the way up. As long as that continues I am sure he will be happy.”

Kane is gunning for Clive Allen’s club record of 49 goals in all competitions this season, with the 24-year-old star currently on 35 goals for the campaign.

OPINION

Sheringham is probably right. Kane is obviously happy at Spurs, his boyhood club, and it won’t take an astronomical offer for him to remain in north London. As long as Spurs are progressing on the pitch, then Kane should remain content in north London for now. Thankfully for Spurs fans, it looks like the club are in the process of drawing up a new deal for Kane, which should be in place before the end of the season. His future at the club is key as they head in to their new stadium at the beginning of next season, as is Mauricio Pochettino’s
