Galatasaray have slapped a £17.5million price tag on Newcastle United summer target Garry Rodrigues, according to Milliyet.

The Turkish outlet report that Galatasaray are looking to make as much money from the sale as possible with Rodrigues’ former club PAOK in line for a 20% sell-on fee.

Milliyet claim that the 27-year-old Cape Verde international forward has also attracted the attention of Fiorentina, Lyon and Sevilla with his performances this season.

The £17.5million price tag would represent a club-record fee for the Magpies, exceeding the £16million they paid for Michael Owen in 2005.

Rodrigues has made 27 appearances for Galatasaray this season, scoring six goals and laying on nine assists for his teammates.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes.

Rodrigues is exactly the kind of player that Newcastle are in need of, with the Magpies attack seemingly bereft of ideas at several points this season.

The 27-year-old loves to get on the ball and run at players, with his silky skills allowing him to beat players with ease and his improving final ball bringing with it bags of assists.

One downside may be that a £17.5million price tag would be quite steep, but that is to be expected in today’s transfer climate.

Likely to happen?

It is impossible to say at the moment.

There are several clubs in the hunt for Rodrigues, and it is yet to be seen whether Newcastle will turn their interest into a concrete offer.
