Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has agreed a deal in principle to join Juventus but will wait until the end of the season to announce the move, according to Tuttosport.

The Turin-based newspaper report that Can wants to avoid any unnecessary ill effects on Liverpool by announcing the move now, and will wait until the right time to announce his free transfer departure.

Tuttosport claim that Liverpool’s Champions League campaign is the main reason behind Can’s decision to delay the announcement, with the Reds on the verge of the quarter-finals after their 5-0 away win over Porto.

German international Can has been at Liverpool for three-and-a-half years since a £10million move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, and has made 161 appearances for the Anfield club.

The 24-year-old’s contract is coming to an end this summer, and the Bianconeri reportedly have a deal in place to bring him in on a free transfer.

OPINION

The loss of Can will be a big loss for Liverpool, but it is one that they have already mitigated for in some ways. The big-money purchase of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita last summer, who is to arrive at the end of the season, will provide an instant replacement for Can should he indeed leave. Unlike Coutinho, Can is a player that the Reds could easily move on without, and they are expected to do so without a hitch.
