Jamie Carragher was delighted on Twitter after Liveprool’s convincing win against Porto on Wednesday night and picked out a few players for special praise.

The Reds took complete control of their Champions League tie after beating the Portuguese outfit 5-0 in their own backyard.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now on the verge of the quarter-finals of the competition, with Sadio Mane (three), Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino netting the decisive goals.

Liverpool legend Carrahger believes that hat-trick hero Mane has rediscovered his best touch as he shone in front of goal.

Meanwhile, the other two of the ‘fab three’ Salah and Firmino received a special accolade for their efforts.

Carragher also credited powerhouse defender Virgil van Dijk, who has made a brilliant start since his £75million switch to Anfield in January.

“Mane back to his best. Salah’s goal Messiesque, VVD (Van Dijk) like a man amongst boys & Bobby Dazzler (Firmino),” Carrahger wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Liverpool produced a masterclass in a European away performance in midweek and should be considered serious contenders to win the Champions League. Klopp’s team will definitely need a slice of luck to go all the way in the competition, but with their front three they can hurt any side in Europe. However, what also stood out against Porto was their defensive display and Van Dijk is quickly becoming a leader with the Merseyside giants. Liverpool have been crying out for a vocal centre-back to control their team and the ex-Southampton ace may be the perfect fit. Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren both look more comfortable alongside Van Dijk, which highlights the impact he is having on their backline.
