Liverpool are ready to sign Jack Wilshere for free in the summer if he fails to sign a new Arsenal contract, according to The Sun.
The newspaper claim that the midfielder is currently locked in talks over renewing his contract that expires in the summer, and the Gunners are set to offer him a deal that would seem him earn less than his current £90,000-a-week wage.
The Sun report that Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Wilshere and that the Reds will make a move for him if he becomes a free agent as Klopp sees him as the ideal replacement for Emre Can.
Can is not expected to sign a new contract with the Reds that would see him extend his stay beyond the summer, with Juventus interested in signing the German international.
Arsenal are expected to offer Wilshere a deal which will see him paid on appearances and performances due to his injury record, but Liverpool would be willing to match his current £90,000-a-week deal to secure his signature.
The in-form 26-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Gunners this season, scoring two as well as registering five assists.
Good move for Liverpool?
Yes. If the Reds can get the midfielder on a free, then he’s worth taking a chance on.
Klopp worked wonders with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and if he could help Wilshere finally fulfill some of his potential, then Liverpool would be better for his arrival.
The Reds look destined to lose Can, so securing a replacement for free would be a smart piece of business.

Likely to happen?
No. Even if Arsenal are offering him a deal that would see him miss out on his £90,000-a-week wage, it’s hard to imagine Wilshere choosing to leave the club.
Wilshere has always looked like having his heart set on being an Arsenal legend, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the 26-year-old opted to take a huge cut to his wages in order to make that dream come true.
