Everton boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that defender Ramiro Funes Mori is to step up his return from injury and should be ready for first-team action soon.
The Argentine enforcer has been a long-term absentee for the Toffees, having not turned out for the club since March last year after suffering a serious knee injury while on international duty.
Funes Mori played his first competitive football in 11 months at the beginning of February for the club’s Under-23s, turning out for 45 minutes in a 4-0 loss to Arsenal.
The 26-year-old will now play for the club’s development side once again this week before being declared ready for first-team action once again in a massive boost for the Toffees.
Allardyce was speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s clash with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday, and was quoted by the club’s official Twitter account:
SA: "I think @funesmoriofi25 will play in the Under-23s again this week and then he'll be ready for the first-team." #EFC
