Everton eye Enrique and Simeone

|

Everton’s majority owner Farhad Moshiri has widened his search as plans for Sam Allardyce’s successor are already underway, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims that Allardyce is on “borrowed time” at Goodison Park and the club are looking for a fresh face to lead them forward.

It is understood that Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca has been considered, while Marco Silva is another candidate to crop up.

However, the report details that the high-profile duo of Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone are also being considered by Moshiri.

Allardyce is still under contract with the Merseyside club until the summer of 2019, but his position certainly seems unclear.

Enrique is currently without a club, but has already shown during his brief managerial career that he is a serial winner.

The Spaniard was extremely successful during a three-year stint with Barcelona, which included two La Liga titles and a Champions League triumph.

Meanwhile, Simeone is the current Atletico Madrid boss and has won a La Liga title.

The Argentinian is renowned for his tactical prowess and his team have become a very defensively solid one under his tenure.

OPINION

Enrique and Simeone are the latest pair to emerge on the list of Everton’s next potential manager, but in truth both seem fairly unlikely. The Toffees have great ambition and have plans to try compete with the English giants in the Premier League. Current boss Allardyce is certainly not the right fit to help them fulfil that aim and his appointment was just to ensure Premier League survival after a dreadful start to the campaign. Everton need to try get a new man in at the start of the summer and give that person time to implement a new strategy at Goodison Park.
