Arsenal are interested in signing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner in the summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Gunners join Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for his signature after the centre-forward rejected a new contract at the Bundesliga club.

The Sun report that Werner is worth £50million and that Arsene Wenger has already personally watched the German international, as the Gunners manager witnessed him score two goals against Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday.

The 21-year-old has been in tremendous form for RB Leipzig in the league this season, scoring 10 goals in 20 appearances.

Werner also has an impressive record at international level too, with the German scoring seven goals in 10 appearances for his country.

The Sun’s report suggests that Arsenal could win the race for Werner ahead of their Premier League rivals, as the Gunners have several German players in their squad already.

Good move for Arsenal?

Sort of.

There’s no denying Werner’s talents but with Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Welbeck already at the club, Arsenal aren’t struggling for options upfront.

Also the 21-year-old is potentially an expensive transfer with him believed to be worth £50million, and the Gunners would be better investing that money elsewhere.

So while his arrival would be welcomed, the Gunners don’t need to sign him.

Likely to happen?

No.

The centre-forward may have rejected a contract offer by RB Leipzig but his current deal doesn’t expire until 2020.

Also with him being rated at £50million and several Premier League teams being interested, he could cost a ridiculous amount that Arsenal will not be so quick to spend.

Especially as they’ve only just paid out £56million, according to the BBC, to sign Aubameyang.
