Arsenal fans slammed Danny Welbeck for his performance against Ostersund on Thursday night in the Europa League.
The Gunners suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to the Swedish side, but still progressed to the next round of the Europa League, as they won the game 4-2 on aggregate.
However, Arsenal supporters were far from comforted by the knowledge that they were still in the tournament as fans expected them to beat Ostersund on Thursday, especially as the game was at the Emirates.
Aside from being furious with their side’s failure to win, supporters singled out Welbeck in particular, for the part he played in Arsenal losing to the Swedish club.
One fan tweeted that the Gunners should have kept Olivier Giroud at Arsenal and sold Welbeck on Ebay, while another fan shared that the 27-year-old was miles off the patch during Thursday’s game.
Arsenal fans will no doubt be expecting Welbeck, if he plays, and their side to perform better on Sunday when they meet Manchester City in the League Cup final.
After being knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest and currently finding themselves 27 points off league leaders Manchester City, the League Cup along with the Europa League is Arsenal’s only chance of lifting a trophy this season.
