BBC pundit Danny Murphy hailed Kenedy after he made his debut in Newcastle United’s draw against Burnley on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old made his first appearance for the Magpies since he joined on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

Rafael Benitez’s side were held 1-1 at St James’ Park in the Premier League and his new signing impressed.

Kenedy, who was deployed as a left-winger by the manager, assisted Newcastle’s goal as his corner was headed in by captain Jamaal Lascelles.

However, goalkeeper Karl Darlow netted an unfortunate own goal late on, which leaves the North-East club just a point above the relegation zone in the league table.

Murphy highlighted Brazilian Kennedy for his performance and feels that he has made an immediate impact on the team.

“He (Kenedy) has got a really good left foot, good technician, nice and confident,” Murphy said on BBC One programme Match of the Day.

“Sometimes a fresh face in a club gives everyone a lift and he was really direct, used the ball well and the fans were excited by him.”

OPINION

Kenedy has already got the Newcastle fans on side after his dazzling debut and could be an important player for them in their fight against relegation. The loanee is yet to cement a regular position throughout his career as he has filled in as a left-back, left-winger and striker already at the age of 21. However, under Benitez he could now be set for a regular run of games on the left flank and that should suit his attacking flair. He is by no means the finished article yet, but he has great trickery that will get supporters off the edge of their seat. Kenedy showed a brilliant piece of skill to win his side a penalty in the first-half, but his forward teammate Joselu saw his effort saved.
