Aston Villa could be without a key quartet of players for the visit of Preston North End in the Championship on Tuesday, according to the Birmingham Mail

The newspaper report that Jack Grealish and Ahmed Elmohamady are doubts for the crucial promotion clash, with Andre Green and Albert Adomah both out with hamstring injuries.

Star attacking midfielder Grealish, who put in a man-of-the-match performance in Villa’s 2-0 derby win over Birmingham last weekend, missed their loss to Fulham on Saturday with a calf complaint.

Right-back Elmohamady was withdrawn at half-time against the Cottagers after a challenge from Matt Targett, and is reportedly another doubt for the Preston clash.

Top scorer Adomah is a definite absentee for Tuesday’s clash with a hamstring injury picked up against Birmingham, while fellow winger Green is said to have suffered another setback in his return from a long-term hamstring issue.

Villa’s 2-0 loss to Fulham saw them drop one place to third in the Championship, seeing their seven-game winning run snapped by a Whites side on the charge.

OPINION

The loss of Grealish was massive for Villa as they saw their win streak ended by Fulham on Saturday, and they must hope that the youngster is available for the Preston match. Adomah is another big loss, with the winger being the club’s top scorer this season with 14. Green’s setback is really disappointing, as the young winger has the potential to become a top player, but his development is being stunted by his current injury problems. Elmohamady’s loss is another blow, but January loan signing Axel Tuanzebe will be able to fill in easily for the Egyptian.
