Leeds United are not set to appoint current Reading boss Jaap Stam as their new manager, according to a reliable journalist.

David Anderson, who is the Mirror’s northern football correspondent, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Whites will not chase Stam at their Championship rivals.

It is understood the Yorkshire giants are quickly trying to find a successor to recently sacked Thomas Christiansen within the next 24-48 hours.

The report also details that Steve McClaren is another name that has been ruled out of contention, despite holding talks with him.

The Mail have reported that Stam’s position at Reading is currently uncertain and that he is on the brink of the sack, with the club 18th in the Championship table.

OPINION

Leeds fans shouldn’t be too disheartened about ruling out Stam or McClaren as their new boss as they should be able to do better. The Whites are hoping that a new man can help lift the club’s form and close the seven-point gap to the play-offs in the remainder of the season. Christiansen’s last game in charge of his Elland Road spell came in a 4-1 loss at home to Cardiff and the club’s hierarchy clearly felt he couldn’t take them further. Leeds’ new boss will need to clamp down on the poor disciplinary record that has crept in as they have received four red cards in the last five games. The Yorkshire giants will see the rest of their season shape by the next three fixtures against Sheffield United, Bristol City and Derby County, which is why a new man must arrive imminently.
