Aitor Karanka confirmed that Nottingham Forest’s Ashkan Dejagah suffered a knee injury in training and could be unavailable for at least a month.

The Forest boss shared that the knee injury could keep the midfielder out longer than a month, but that he was waiting to find out more information on his injury before setting a time frame for Dejagah’s return.

“We are waiting to find out how serious it is,” said Karanka, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.

“He took a knock to his knee and we are trying to know what the outcome is.

“It is a shame, because he was desperate to play, he was desperate to help us and desperate to earn his chance in the World Cup, with his country.

“We will see what happens, I don’t know how much it will impact his time here, I am not a doctor.

“We will see what happens, but it does not look good and it is a shame for him and us.”

Dejagah was one of 10 players to join Nottingham Forest in January and he signed a deal until the end of the season after being released by Wolfsburg last summer.

The 31-year-old has only made one appearance since joining the club with him playing 14 minutes of the 2-0 defeat to Fulham in the Championship.

OPINION

What a disappointment for Nottingham Forest and Dejagah. Forest took a risk by signing him as he had been without regular football for a while but the midfielder certainly appeared to be a gamble worth taking. Dejagah impressed during his time at Fulham, when he featured for them in the Premier League and has enough ability to create opportunities from nothing. It’s a shame to think that his Nottingham Forest career is in jeopardy before it has even begun, but sometimes these things happen in football. Hopefully Karanka’s update turns out be an overreaction by the manager and Dejagah is able to get back sooner than expected in order to help his team.
