Bruce singles out Snodgrass for praise

|

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce heaped praise on midfielder Robert Snodgrass for his performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Villans came from behind to beat the Owls 4-2 at Hillsborough, with Snodgrass grabbing an assist and a goal in the match.

The 30-year-old winger crossed the ball into the box for Gary Whelan to score in the 67th minute, before winning and scoring a penalty for his side in the final minute of the game.

Following the match Bruce shared how important Snodgrass’ display was in Saturday’s game, when it came to the Villans getting an important victory.

“The penalty that he wins is worthy of five penalties,” exclaimed Bruce, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“He’s a dribbler and he draws a foul.

“I think they get frustrated because they want him on their team, he’s a dying breed, he’s got a trick in him and he manages to get crosses in.

“He’s not really got natural pace but he draws a foul, I don’t know what they’re complaining about because the guy nearly kicked him over the Kop, he’s been invaluable to us.

“It was a great ball into the box for Whelan and he tucked away his penalty, he’s been a very good acquisition since he’s come here.”

The 30-year-old winger is on loan from West Ham until the end of the season, and the Hammers, according to the Birmingham Mail, are expected to give him an opportunity to succeed at the London Stadium next season.

OPINION

Snodgrass is no doubt loving life at the Villans and it is shame that he has to leave the club in the summer. Bruce would love the winger to stay with him at the club even if they got promoted to the Premier League. Snodgrass was not given much of a chance to succeed at West Ham and David Moyes is no doubt confused about why that was, after witnessing his performances this season. However, the 30-year-old was woeful during his brief spell at the Hammers and there is a giant question mark over whether he can succeed at the club.
