Oliver Sarkic has signed a permanent contract with Leeds United – and fans have taken to Twitter to hail the striker as a huge prospect.

Leeds announced on their official Twitter account and official website on Thursday afternoon that Sarkic, 20, has converted his half-season loan from Benfica into a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

He has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal, which has the option to be extended by a further 12 months.

Sarkic moved to Elland Road last summer initially on loan from the Portuguese giants and has impressed club chiefs with his performances in Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s squad.

The Montenegro youth international is the fifth new arrival at the Championship promotion hopefuls in the last week.

Leeds have signed Belgian left-back Laurens De Bock, Japan midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi, who has moved to Spanish club Cultural Leonesa on loan for the rest of the season, Finnish centre-back Aapo Halme and goalkeeper Kamil Miazek.

Three of the new arrivals are likely to spend the rest of the campaign with the Under-23s squad, which is a disappointment for fans who want signings who can aid the team’s promotion challenge.

Nevertheless, United fans rate Sarkic and believe he has the potential to make a real impact at the club.
