Wolverhampton Wanderers have been installed clear favourites to sign AC Milan striker Andre Silva, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the runaway Championship leaders at evens on Thursday afternoon to land Silva, 22, before the transfer window shuts at the start of February.

Wolves are a long way clear in the betting market of second-placed Everton (4/1), while West Ham (8/1), Tottenham and Crystal Palace (both 12/1) are also in the running.

This comes after Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera reported earlier this week that Wolves had tabled a sensational bid for the striker, who joined Milan for £33.8million from Porto last summer.

The Milan-based newspaper report that the Midlands club’s bid was emphatically rejected by the Serie A giants.

It is said that Jorge Mendes, Silva’s agent who is heavily involved at Wolves, was instrumental to the bid.

Good move for Wolves?

Wolves have made a few massive statements in the transfer market in recent windows, but capturing Silva would be in a different ballpark totally. The Portugal international has not fired yet for Milan in Serie A but he has six goals in six Europa League games this season and eight in 23 appearances in all competitions. For his country, he has netted 11 times in 18 matches. These are persuasive numbers, as is the huge fee Milan paid for the striker last summer. It would be sensational were Wolves to sign the star striker at a club of Milan’s stature.

Likely to happen?

Don’t rule anything out with cash-rich Wolves this season, even though they must comply with financial fair play regulation. Furthermore, Mendes’ network of contacts and vast number of players at his agency mean the club are well placed to take on his rising stars.
