West Ham could hand available defender Steven Caulker a trial with the club, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Hammers may give the free agent a chance to prove himself with a trial at the London Stadium.

It is understood that manager David Moyes is eyeing January options to bolster his squad and the 26-year-old would be a cheap option as he would demand no transfer fee.

The report details that Caulker is looking to rebuild his career after stuttering in recent years and is looking to get back to full fitness.

Caulker left Championship club QPR in December after making just four appearances for them this season.

However, he is a powerhouse centre-back that does have an England cap under his belt and also a wealth of Premier League experience after featuring 123 times in the top flight.

Good move for West Ham?

Caulker is now an available defender and is worth a gamble by West Ham to help improve their backline.

The Hammers could do with an additional centre-back due to their three at the back system and the one-time capped England international has the potential to be a good signing.

Moyes could be the perfect man-manager to reignite his career and keep him on the straight and narrow.

Caulker was certainly once of Premier League quality and at 26 it is surely not too late to rediscover his best touch.

Likely to happen?

There is every chance that Caulker could become a West Ham player as they eye a trial date, but obviously the ball-playing centre-back will need to impress.

His career has certainly regressed in the past few years, but the Hammers could be the perfect platform for him to find his feet again.
