West Ham are interested in signing Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims in its transfer blog that the Hammers are set to have a “lively” end to the January transfer window during the last three days.

It is understood that Fulham’s 25-year-old is high on the club’s transfer targets and that his contract expires in the summer.

Fredericks is a right-sided flyer that has been in great form this season as his side compete for promotion in the Championship.

He is an attack-minded right-back that likes to bomb forward and has seven assists in his 29 appearances across all competitions this season.

Good move for West Ham?

Fredericks certainly is a top performer for Fulham this campaign and looks like he could make a positive impact in the Premier League.

The full-back was previously on the books at Tottenham and has managed to develop into a decent player in the Championship.

He could be a good signing for West Ham, but the club do already have Sam Byram and Pablo Zabaleta as right-back options in the squad.

David Moyes would surely have to ship one of them out if he was to bring in Fulham’s defender.

Likely to happen?

A lot would need to take place in the final few days of the January window if West Ham were to secure Fredericks and right now it seems fairly unlikely that Fulham would sell one of their key players, despite him entering the final six months of his contract.

The Hammers do already have options in the full-back areas and there are other positions that could be a priority for them.
