West Ham are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims in its transfer blog (12:46pm, Friday 12th) that the Hammers and Watford are both keen on signing the Championship midfielder.

Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has explained that the club would want a guarantee fee for the player if he was to leave on loan, or for a permanent fee to help their financial situate.

He also explained that the combative central midfielder wants to leave the Championship strugglers.

The Independent reported back in the summer that West Ham were interested in Ndong to help reinforce their options in the middle of the park, but it now seems they have their rekindled a bid to sign him.

Good move for West Ham?

West Ham certainly need another midfielder in their squad as they appear light in that area and Sunderland’s want-away 23-year-old is an interesting target.

Ndong is certainly capable of stepping back up to the Premier League and was one of Sunderland’s better players when the club suffered relegation.

A reunion with his former manager Moyes could help him settle at the London Stadium and he has a no-nonsense approach in the middle that supporters would love.

However, it was not too long ago West Ham were being linked with the likes of William Carvalho and it is a sign of the times of where they are at.

Likely to happen?

Ndong could well leave Sunderland during the January window if financial issues are sorted and West Ham are firmly in the race for him.

They would have to beat off competition from Premier League side Watford, but will hope the Moyes factor can make the difference.
