Rangers are close to completing a deal for Norwich defender Russell Martin, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the 32-year-old is set to complete a temporary move to Ibrox on loan for the rest of the season.??It is understood that the Gers expect to wrap up a deal shortly and that it could be done this week.

Martin could be the third player to join the Light Blues during the January window following the captures of Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy also on loan.

Good move for Rangers?

Martin is exactly what Rangers need in the window and is a big improvement on the current centre-back options.

He should be able to force his way into Graeme Murty’s strongest XI quite quickly and has the potential to be a great piece of business.

He is a highly experienced defender that has played 125 times in the Premier League and would make a seamless transition to the Scottish top flight.

Likely to happen?

This deal appears to be all but done and Martin is set to become the latest player to join during Murty’s January overhaul.

He has been unable to force his way into contention at Norwich for most of the season and a loan spell should give him the chance to play on a regular basis.
