Norwich defender Russell Martin has confirmed that it’s likely he will leave Carrow Road on loan in January amid reported interest from Rangers.

The 32-year-old centre-back has been on the fringes of the Canaries squad this season and made just seven first-team appearances.

He is the club captain at Championship club Norwich, but has revealed it’s probably he will leave on a temporary basis in the current transfer window.

“I’m not sure where the destination is but the likelihood is I will go out on loan,” Martin told BT Sport’s television coverage of Norwich v Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The Daily Record have reported that Scottish top-flight club Rangers are eyeing a January move Norwich’s defender.

It is understood that he has been told he can leave in the New Year and Gers boss Graeme Murty has identified him as a target.

Meanwhile, the Evening Times have reported that Martin is open to an Ibrox switch as Rangers line up a move for him.

Martin is a 29-time capped Scotland international and is keen to play regular senior football elsewhere.

OPINION

The green light appears to be on for Rangers to complete a move for Martin and they should make contact immediately to win the race for him. The centre-back would massively improve the defensive options in the Gers squad and it is an area of the pitch that needs strengthening. He has 125 Premier League appearances under his belt during his career and is a no-nonsense defender that should make a big impact in Scotland. Murty needs to try and help Rangers overlap Aberdeen in the league table, something that Martin could certainly help do if he arrives and settles quickly.
