Everton are interested in signing Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, but they are unlikely to submit a bid during the January transfer window, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports correspondent Rob Dorsett has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Toffees boss Sam Allardyce is a long-term admirer of the 31-year-old.

It is understood that the Merseyside club are interested in the England international, but aren’t expected to make a move in January after already spending a near-£50million sum on the signing of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott.

The report further details that former Premier League champions Leicester would resist any offer for their blistering centre-forward.

Vardy has become renowned as a lethal Premier League striker in recent years and he has struck 10 goals across all competitions so far this season.

Good move for Everton?

Vardy would be a dream signing for Everton and his willingness to run in behind defenders would work extremely well at Goodison Park.

The Merseyside club have managed to bring in powerhouse Tosun to improve their frontline, but signing a proven star in Vardy would have topped it.

Allardyce has looked to add an injection of pace to his side and the Foxes ace is one of the quickest in the Premier League.

He will be desperate for a strong second half of the season to ensure he is in good form going into the 2018 World Cup.

Likely to happen?

Everton are not expected to make an official offer for Vardy in the remainder of the January window despite their interest and that has killed off a potential deal before it has started.

It would have been interesting to see how far Leicester could have been pushed over a price tag for a player that has already gone down as a club legend at the King Power Stadium.
