Everton are interested in a January move for midfielder Omar Mascarell from German top-fligth club Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Marca.

The Spanish news outlet claims that the Toffees are keen on the 24-year-old enforcer and that manager Sam Allardyce wants to bring in a technically capable player.

It is understood that La Liga club Sevilla are also interested in the pass master during the current window.

Mascarell was previously on the books of Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and has spent time in England during a loan spell with Derby in the 2014/15 campaign.

Good move for Everton?

This potential deal would make very little sense for Everton as they already have the likes of Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, James McCarthy and Morgan Schneiderlin competing for a starting XI spot.

Mascarell made just his first appearance of the season on Saturday after missing the first half through injury and will need time to get back up to full speed.

The Spanish midfielder is a big physical presence that could cope with the Premier League, but Allardyce should be pursuing alternative deals as a priority.

Likely to happen?

Everton are believed to be keen on the Bundesliga midfielder, but are yet to make any official contact with half of the January window already gone.

They would face stiff competition from Sevilla to secure his signature and a deal seems unlikely at this stage.
