West Ham have ran out of time to schedule a medical for Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account late on deadline day that the Hammers hopes of signing Dendoncker, 22, are dead in the water.

It is understood that the Belgium international will be staying at Anderlecht after the clock strikes 11pm on transfer deadline day.

Dendoncker has made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Brussels giants, playing as either a defensive midfielder or centre-back.

West Ham have had a miserable transfer window that has seen fans express their frustrations to co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

Good move for West Ham to miss out?

Dendoncker is a solid player. He would have had defensive steel to David Moyes’ midfield while also adding extra options in defence. Is it the end of the world that they have missed out on him? No. He has not been in amazing form this season but would still have done a job at the London Stadium. West Ham fans will not be happy though, just because it’s another player that they have missed out on.

Likely to happen?

Not any more no. There is less than an hour to go until the deadline so it would take a lot of work and perhaps a teleportation device to get Dendoncker to where he has to be in time. What a poor month for the Hammers.
