Rangers are in talks to sign Swansea forward Oli McBurnie on loan until the end of the season, according to Sunday Mail chief football writer Scott McDermott.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Light Blues have made contact with the Premier League side about McBurnie, 21, and talks are ongoing between the two British clubs.

Sunderland are also said to be keen on the centre-forward, who is a known supporter of Rangers and fans would go into absolute meltdown if they were to welcome him to Ibrox.

This comes after widespread reports of bids going in for Alfredo Morelos from China.

Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen may see McBurnie as a replacement for ‘El Bufalo’, as the Swansea target man would offer a completely new dimension to the Gers’ attacking style of play compared to the current options.

He has made 11 appearances in the Premier League this term but has not scored a goal.

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers fans will forget about Morelos straight away if they signed McBurnie. The Scotland Under-21 international supports the Gers and has a great friendship with Jason Cummings. Although he may not be hitting the target at Swansea, it’s important to remember that he is still young and has only started twice in the Premier League this term. With the Welsh side’s Under-23s he has 10 goals in seven Premier League 2 appearances.

Likely to happen?

This would all have to move very quick for a deal to materialise. Rangers are said to have rejected bids for Morelos so would have to hope that a Chinese Super League side comes back in with another offer for the Colombian. If that happens and they have the chance to sign McBurnie on loan, they should jump at it. He would more than replace the goals that will be missed should Morelos leave and will offer a lot of height and aerial prowess.
