Nottingham Forest have opened talks over a last-ditch swoop for Cardiff forward Lee Tomlin, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in its live transfer blog on Wednesday [05:51pm] that Forest are expecting Tomlin, 29, to arrive at the City Ground in time for the 11pm deadline while Jamie Ward is being lined up for a move away.

It is understood that Ward, 31, is wanted by Cardiff although it appears Millwall may be winning the race for his signature.

Forest manager Aitor Karanka has not shied away from dipping his toes into the transfer market on deadline day and it seems that he is not finished yet.

Tomlin has not played a lot of football for Cardiff this season.

The skilful forward has made just 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

However he has started just five times in the Championship this season as the Bluebirds aim for promotion and currently sit in fourth place.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Tomlin is a very experienced player in the Championship with over 200 appearances in England’s second-tier. He seems to average a goal in every four games, but the 29-year-old is usually someone who plays just behind the main striker. Forest have been very busy on deadline day so far so it really wouldn’t be a surprise if there are even more additions.

Likely to happen?

Karanka seems to be spinning a lot of plates at the moment. A late swoop for Tomlin does not appear to be at the advanced stages as of yet but that could accelerate as the deadline approaches. Once the talks get to a more advanced stage, Forest fans can become more confident of this deal going through.
