Newcastle United have completed the eleventh hour signing of Islam Slimani from Leicester City, according to Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account with less than two hours to go before the transfer window slams shut that the deal is now “done” for Slimani, 29, to move on loan to Newcastle for the rest of the season.

Slimani has already been pictured in the North-East ahead of putting an end to Rafa Benitez’s long-winded search for a new striker.

It has been widely reported that the Algeria international will move to St James’ on loan until the summer after dropping down the pecking order at Leicester.

There had been worries that the former Sporting CP target man could fail a medical after he was said to have picked up an injury in training ahead of his deadline day exit from the King Power.

Likely to happen?

Lee Ryder is one of the most reliable sources of Newcastle information that you can get so it seems pretty certain that this deal is wrapped up and that the Magpies are just awating full-time against Burnley to announce the deal. It’s been a long day to get in Slimani, but it’s finally sealed.
