Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie may have chipped a bone in his ankle, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the 19-year-old could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury during the club’s winter break in Florida.

It is understood there were initial concerns he had broken his ankle, but it’s now suspected he has chipped a bone.

The report details that there should be a further update on Wednesday to his injury setback and the teenager will be hoping to avoid a lengthily absence.

McCrorie has become a mainstay in the starting XI under Graeme Murty and has made 18 senior appearances across all competitions this season.

The defensive midfielder has broken into the side on a full-time basis and impressed with his big physical presence.

OPINION

Rangers fans will be devastated to hear about McCrorie’s injury blow and will have fingers crossed that he can make a quick recovery. The Scotland Under-21 international has certainly be one of the shinning lights at Ibrox so far this season and really impressed with his mature performances. The Gers have managed to bring in Sean Goss on loan from QPR as a midfield option, but McCrorie has been an ever-present in the centre of the park during the past couple of months. He has only recently been transformed into a midfielder under Murty and has developed as a centre-back during the earlier stages of his career.
