Rangers are keeping tabs on Newcastle United goalscoring midfielder Sean Longstaff as he prepares to become a free agent in the summer, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim that the Light Blues are looking at players whose contracts expire in the summer and their scouts have picked out Longstaff as one to watch.

The Chronicle report that Longstaff has attracted the attention of a series of clubs, including the Premier League’s Bournemouth, after impressing on loan this season at Blackpool.

The midfielder has scored six goals in 26 appearances at Blackpool this season, and Rafa Benitez is keeping an eye of the midfielder as he still may decide to offer him a new deal.

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers are certainly in need of bolstering their midfield in the summer, and Longstaff looks an impressive option considering he will be free.

With the midfielder only being 20-years-old, Longstaff has the potential to be player who doesn’t just make an impact on Rangers’ fortunes but could be a force for a long time to come.

Likely to happen?

As it stands the midfielder’s contract is going to expire so he’s going to move somewhere in the summer.

With a host of clubs interested, Rangers face competition in their pursuit of Longstaff but given the club stature, they should be among the favourites to seal a move.
