West Ham raise the price on Oxford

|

West Ham will sell Reece Oxford to Borussia Monchengladbach if the German club up their initial bid of £12million by a further £6million, according to Football.London.

The website claim that the Hammers are open to loaning the defender out for the rest of the season, if their £18million demand isn’t met.

Football.London report that David Moyes may opt to play Oxford in the FA Cup against Wigan on Saturday; despite the club being willing to let him leave.

The 19-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, making four appearances for the club.

After being recalled to the Hammers at the start of 2018, Oxford has made only one brief appearance, playing in the FA Cup third round replay against Shrewsbury Town.

Bild previously reported that Oxford still doesn’t feature in David Moyes’ plans for the second half of the season, and that the 19-year-old wants to move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

The German newspaper also revealed that the Bundesliga club are the only team the defender can join in this window; as you can’t be registered for three clubs in one season.

Good move for West Ham?

It was be fantastic move to get £18million for Oxford, with him putting in a woeful performance against Shrewsbury Town earlier this month.

However, it’s still a good decision if the Hammers just let him go out on loan; if they’re unable to get big money for him.

The 19-year-old may impress on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in the second half of the season; so much so, that the German club stump up the cash for him in the summer.

Likely to happen?

No. The Bundesliga club know that West Ham either have to keep him or agree a deal with them, and £18million is huge price tag for the defender.

The Hammers royally messed up featuring him in the FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town, as it limited their options.

With this in mind, West Ham may just loan him to the Bundesliga club and try to negotiate a permanent deal in the summer.
