Barcelona’s Andre Gomes has been offered to several Premier League clubs and West Ham need to ensure they get the midfielder in January after missing out in the summer.

The Daily Mail report that due to Barcelona wanting to sign Antoine Griezmann in the summer, the Spanish giants need to sell players to make that happen and Gomes is one of the players to be sacrificed.

The newspaper claim the midfielder has been offered to several Premier League clubs but doesn’t name which ones.

During the last transfer window both Tottenham and West Ham battled to take Gomes on loan, with Spurs looking like they had beaten the Hammers to his signature on deadline day.

However, Barcelona changed their mind about letting the midfielder go and Gomes instead stayed at the Nou Camp.

The midfielder has made 16 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish club this season, but has been limited to only eight league outings, with the majority of those being made from the bench.

With him failing to cement a regular place and Barcelona’s interest in Griezmann looking legit, the midfielder definitely looks like he will depart the club in January.

The Hammers need to ensure he ends up with them, even if Spurs re-enter the race.

The cultured midfielder would be a revelation at West Ham and arrive at a time when they’re desperate for players exactly like him.

David Moyes has publicly spoken about his side’s need to add quality to their squad with them short on midfielders.

Gomes can produce the quality needed not only to help the Hammers in a relegation fight but fire them up the league.

Also with Moyes being short across the board in midfield, Gomes has proven his versatility this season.

The Portuguese midfielder has featured as a left winger, central midfielder and has dropped deeper to operate as a defensive midfielder.

This means Gomes’ signing would give Moyes plenty of options on how to utilise the midfielder and provide cover for a variety of positions.

The other reason why Gomes is ideal is also due to what Moyes apparently wants at the club.

The veteran manager believes you need experienced players to fight the threat of relegation and despite being only 24-years-old, Gomes has plenty.

Gomes has featured 101 times in La Liga, featuring for both Barcelona and Valencia,  as well as being a member of Portugal Euro 2016 winning team.

While this isn’t Premier League experience, it’s experience that showcases his ability to perform with heavy expectations weighing down on him.

Barcelona fans, Valencia fans and Portugal fans all demand stellar performances at all times and Gomes has stepped up to the plate in the past.

This means that Gomes should have no issues putting in good performances despite the threat of relegation looming over the club.

With that in mind, this is why West Ham need to ensure they get Gomes in January ahead of any other Premier League clubs, as he could be a vital part in securing Premier League survival.
