West Ham are panicking following their injury crisis if a recent report about their transfer targets is to be believed.

The Sun previously reported that the Hammers are interested in signing Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool, and if they’re unable to sign him, they will sign Troy Deeney from Watford.

The Hammers are clearly in the market for a striker, but it’s hard to tell which of these options are worse.

West Ham looked ready for the second half of the season when it came to their striking options, however Marko Arnautovic, Manuel Lanzini, Andy Carroll, Michail Antonio and Diafra Sakho are now all sidelined through injury.

This leaves Moyes struggling to find a player he trusts to lead the line, as he has previously shown that Javier Hernandez isn’t for him.

However, just because the Hammers suddenly have to sign a striker with time working against them; they shouldn’t be signing the first names they think of.

Sturridge is a fantastic striker when fit and he has a proven goalscoring record in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has scored 75 Premier League goals in 194 appearances, but he’s not the man West Ham need.

Sturridge has been riddled with injuries leading him to lose his first team place at Liverpool, so where’s the logic in signing an injury prone player to fix an injury crisis?

The chances must be high that if Sturridge joined the club, then it wouldn’t take him long to be sat on the sidelines with Moyes’ other options.

There’s also the fact the Reds will only loan him to a club if that side promises to pay £25million, according to The Sun, for his services in the future.

That’s a lot of money to guarantee paying a club, when you’re only in the market for a striker due to an injury crisis that will be resolved by the end of the season.

This suggests that West Ham have just quickly thought who is available, rather than carefully consider their options, if they’re chasing Sturridge.

The back-up option also suggest panic,as once again Troy Deeney is a decent available Premier League striker but he isn’t what the Hammers need either.

The 29-year-old has only scored two goals this season in 15 appearances, and despite previously scoring over 100 goals for Watford he looks like he’d benefit from dropping down a league.

There’s also the fact that despite having not played for the Hammers, he’s not exactly liked by supporters due to previous comments.

Deeney once accused West Ham of mugging Watford off, according to the BBC, and fans aren’t quick to forget outbursts of that nature.

Therefore, both this targets reek of West Ham panicking to cover their injury crisis, and the Hammers should really look to other options if they want a new striker in this window.

As both Sturridge and Deeney wouldn’t work at West Ham.
